We bought the Barracuda from a small lot under the Valley View Bridge in Independence, Ohio on May 22, 1990. This lot had about four cars brought here from the Carolina's. While looking around I saw the Barracuda and it was an eye catcher. It has a 340 cubic inch engine topped off with a Carter 4 barrel carburetor between the Mopar Performance Valve covers and it had dual exhaust. It also has TTI Ceramic Coated Headers that give it that sweet sound going down the highway. It sports a 727 Chrysler 3 speed automatic transmission with a Mopar Performance Shifter. It had an 8 ¾” rear end which was ready to break, but fortunately there was a complete 8 ¾” unit with a 3:23 gear ratio in the trunk.

In June 1990, I was driving the Barracuda to my high school graduation at Lakeland Community College with by brother. We were about 30 miles off course, thank goodness for the 340, we made it just in time or I would have missed my graduation. That year we took the Barracuda to the Twinsburg Chrysler Plant show and in August we went to the Mopar Nationals in Columbus, Ohio. Over the next ten years, Dad and I collected numerous parts for the restoration, which began in 2000.

The car was completely disassembled and taken to Excalibur Auto Body in Eastlake, Ohio for body repair and painting. The car was painted with PPG paint and clear coat. The color is Platinum Mist. This is a Dodge Ram truck color. The vinyl top was replaced at Clover Car Center in 2007. It has 215/70 Goodyear Eagle tires mounted to 14” Rally rims. Both bumpers were rechromed and the original bucket seats were done in black Vinyl by Sheila’s in Geneva, Ohio.
It has been an ongoing project since getting it in 1990 but with my Dad’s (Russ Kalina) help it has been a lot of fun and we have enjoyed going to shows and cruises all over the area.
