1962 Chevy Biscayne 409
I would like to introduce you to our new 'baby' Our 1962 Chevrolet Biscayne 409.
We owned one exactly like this one in 1962. Back then when gas cost around a dollar, it was a real 'gas guzzler'. We were just married and with kids soon to be on way so we sold it! ( We cry about that now ). After just a few years had passed the kids were grown up and out on their own, we then started looking for another one to replace our original "Baby". WELL, I bought an Auto Trader and low and behold there was a 62 in Kingston Mass. 65,000 original miles, soooo off we went with trailer, checkbook and very high hopes!! It looked very good, other than being really dirty from being stored in a building for who knows how many years. We found out that a little old lady owned it, ( I know, I know, you've heard that one before to! ), but it really turned out to be the truth!
She was handicapped and had hand controls installed in it for her use. After her husband had died in 1983 she parked it in a garage until we found it. It was white, unlike our original "Baby" which had been gold. We were exuberant at first sight, we bought it and brought it home and then the real 'fun' began. Ron totally took it apart piece by piece, bolt by bolt and then he built a rotisserie and really went to work on it. After disassembly, it was time for cleaning, repairing, checking everything out, then priming, sanding, priming, sanding and finally we were able to put some Autumn Gold paint on it, and "Voile"!
You can see what we ended up with. Our pride and joy!!
Thanks for looking and reading the saga of our 409!
