Jim Selfe's
51 Ford Pick Up
I bought my truck in Saybrook Ohio in November of 1997.It was
in a backyard on Depot Road. It was partially disassembled; the
fenders & bed were scrap, no engine or radiator.
We took it my brother's garage to rebuild it. It took about 3
Yrs. to make it roadworthy. The engine and transmission are from
a 79 Olds Cutlass, the rear end is stock with 3.92 gears. The
frame was blasted & coated, all new pins & bushings put
in the springs, all new brake & fuel lines. The Olds engine
is actually a 305 c. i. Chevy small block, with a TH200 transmission.
The electrical system was converted to 12 Volts.
In August 2001 I had a wreck that destroyed the frame, front axle,
front fenders and hood & grill. My brother and I found another
51 pick up in Kalamazoo Mich. with all the parts needed to rebuild
the original.
With much help from my brother and the boys from Jack's garage
it was put back together over the winter of 2001-2002.
There is still much to be done before it's finished, but its fun
to drive as it is for now.
