Buell's
1933 Willys Coupe
About 7 years ago my brother Jim & I drove our Model A's
to Columbus Ohio's Goodguys, Jim sold his coupe so I decided to
sell mine, It sold on Sunday.
While looking for another car to buy I found a vendor selling
33 Willys Coupe's ( Fiberglass Fabrications ), put a down payment
on one and they said it would take about 3 months to make.
Three months later we were going to the James Dean Run in Fairmont
Indiana. We used my brothers truck and a borrowed a trailer, we
Loaded Rogers 26 T on the trailer and drove to Fiberglass Fabrications
in Fort Wayne Indiana, Unloaded the T loaded the Willys on the
trailer and left the car and trailer there, drove the 26 T and
truck to the Dean Run. On the way back we picked up the Willys
& trailer and drove home.
The Willys took about 6 months for us to complete. We put in a
355 cubic inch Blown Small Block Chevy built by Gardner Racing
Engines, The transmission is 400 TCI followed up by a 9 in. Ford
Positraction rear end.
The chassis is Fiberglass Fabrication with Mustang II IFS. And
the rear suspension is coil over .
The body has suicide doors with power locks & power windows,
while the interior is Tan Leatherette & Tweed by ( Seats &
More). The paint was sprayed by Paul's Auto body with 3 Stage
Mustang Red.
I raced the Willys at the Thompson Nostalgia Gasser Meet. On the
first run the car made a right turn narrowly missing the wall
and all of the next runs were straight down the track.
The Willys has been to Goodguys Columbus, Wooster, The Cleveland
Autorama and many local Cruises.
