I was the first major make over since the third-generation
“ Shark “ debuted in 1968. The new look featured
a fastback rear window. Aluminum Wheels, Mirrored Glass T-Tops,
Spoilers front and rear were standard on the Limited Edition
Corvette. The interior would also get a new makeover, the dash,
seats, and door panels were redesigned. The Pace Car interior
would receive a special silver color paint scheme.
An AM/FM stereo with 8-track player was one of the many options
included as “ standard “ equipment inside the Indy
Pace Car replica, a $419.00 option for other corvettes. Our
highlight of ownership to date was the trip to Carlisle, P.A.
for the 50th anniversary celebration of the Corvette, what a
Super event. It was great seeing all the wonderful cars and
exhibits, but it was even better owning and driving one there.
Sincerely, Lanny Smith “ Keeper of the Legend “

1978 Corvette paces indy
The Corvette was chosen to pace this year’s 62nd Indy
500.
As a result, Chevrolet produced a special Limited Edition Pace
Car replica, which featured their own vehicle identification
numbers, a special black and silver two-tone paint scheme and
red striping. Chevrolet built one for each dealer thus yielding
a total of 6,502 produced, as published by Chevrolet. There
are reports that the “ Limited Edition Pace Car ”
was in such high demand in 1978, that despite it’s $13,653
sticker price, people were paying up to $75,000.00.
